- 4 cups cubed day-old bread (such as brioche or challah)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Place the cubed bread in a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and cream until well combined.
- Add the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the egg mixture, whisking until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and stir gently. Let sit for about 10 minutes.
- Fold in the diced apples and raisins (if using).
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, pressing down gently.
- Mix the brown sugar and melted butter, and drizzle over the top.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
