- 4 cups cubed day-old bread (such as brioche or challah)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- Place the cubed bread in a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and cream until well blended; add sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, whisking until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and stir gently. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
- Fold in the diced apples and raisins into the bread mixture.
- Transfer the soaked mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Mix the brown sugar and melted butter; drizzle over the top of the bread pudding.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Serve with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra indulgence. Can be made vegan or gluten-free with substitutions.
