Description

A simple and delicious apple pie filling made with a mix of tart and sweet apples, combined with warm spices and lemon for an extra kick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Granny Smith apples (peeled and sliced)
  • 2 cups Honeycrisp apples (peeled and sliced)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp butter (cubed)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Peel and slice the apples into even pieces about 1/4 inch thick and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
  3. Combine: Gently fold the sliced apples into the sugar-spice mixture until well coated.
  4. Cook the Apples: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook the mixture until apples are soft (about 5-7 minutes).
  5. Add Butter: Stir in butter until melted and combined with the apple mixture.
  6. Cool: Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Notes

For a thicker filling, increase the cornstarch. You can also mix different apple varieties for balance.
