- 2 cups Honeycrisp apples (peeled and sliced)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 3 tbsp butter (cubed)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel and slice the apples into even pieces about 1/4 inch thick and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
- Combine: Gently fold the sliced apples into the sugar-spice mixture until well coated.
- Cook the Apples: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook the mixture until apples are soft (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add Butter: Stir in butter until melted and combined with the apple mixture.
- Cool: Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Notes
For a thicker filling, increase the cornstarch. You can also mix different apple varieties for balance.
