- 3 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the brown sugar, stirring until bubbly. Introduce the sliced apples and cook until just tender, about 5 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared cake pan, spreading it out evenly. Then pour the batter over the apples.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool for a few minutes, then invert onto a serving plate to reveal the apples on top. Serve warm or cold.
