- Red food coloring
- Crushed candy canes for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract, mixing until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt, then gradually mix into the wet ingredients.
- Divide the dough in half; color one half with red food coloring and leave the other plain.
- Roll small pieces of each dough into ropes and twist them together to form candy cane shapes.
- Place the shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10-12 minutes.
- Once cooled, sprinkle crushed candy canes on top for decoration.
Notes
For best results, use room temperature butter and chill the dough if it’s too soft to shape.
