Description

A vibrant one-pan meal featuring chicken sausage, fresh broccoli, and comforting orzo pasta that’s ready in under 40 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz chicken sausage, sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
  • 4 cups broccoli florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 medium onion, diced (about 1 cup)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2½ cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned, about 3 to 4 minutes. Set aside.
  2. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and the diced onion to the skillet. Sauté until translucent, about 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in garlic, Italian seasoning, and optional red pepper flakes; cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add uncooked orzo to the skillet and toast for 1 to 2 minutes. Pour in chicken broth, scraping any browned bits from the skillet. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 8 minutes.
  4. Stir in broccoli and return the sausage to the skillet. Cover and cook for an additional 4 to 5 minutes until broccoli is tender but crisp.
  5. Remove from heat, mix in Parmesan cheese and lemon juice. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Notes

For variations, you can substitute chicken sausage with turkey or plant-based sausage, or adjust the spices based on your preference.
