Description

A simplified version of traditional cannoli, these squares are filled with a creamy ricotta mixture and encased in crispy phyllo dough.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy, then fold in mini chocolate chips.
  3. Prepare phyllo dough by brushing layers with melted butter and sprinkling with granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  4. Layer and cut the phyllo into squares for uniform baking.
  5. Add a spoonful of the ricotta mixture to each square and pinch corners to seal.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For a variation, consider using flavored ricotta or adding spices. Ensure the phyllo is brushed with butter for crispiness.
