Description
Delightful churro cruffins combine the flaky texture of croissants with sweet cream cheese filling and a cinnamon sugar coating, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pack Puff Pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon Cinnamon
- 1 cup Sugar (brown sugar can be used)
- 2–3 inches Neutral Oil (canola or vegetable oil)
- 1 cup Chocolate (dark or milk chocolate)
- 1 cup Jam (favorite flavor like raspberry or strawberry)
- 1 cup Sweet Cream Cheese (mix with a touch of vanilla)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pastry: Preheat the oven as directed on the puff pastry package. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into squares or rectangles, depending on your cruffin mold size.
- Fill the Pastry: Take a spoonful of sweet cream cheese and place it in the center of each pastry square. Next, add a dollop of jam and a few chunks of chocolate.
- Shape the Cruffins: Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling to create a pocket. Place the filled pastry into a greased muffin tin, ensuring that the edges spread out for that cruffin shape.
- Fry and Coat: In a deep pan, heat neutral oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the cruffins to fry until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes each side. Once fried, roll the cruffins in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon for that classic churro finish.
- Serve Warm: Let them cool slightly before digging in.
Notes
Don’t skip the jam for added moisture and flavor. Ensure the oil is hot enough for proper frying.
