Delicious apple pie flavor in a convenient bar form, featuring a buttery crust and spiced apple filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold butter, cubed
- 4 cups thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: caramel sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press two-thirds of this crumb mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
- Bake this crust for about 15 minutes, or until it’s lightly golden.
- While the crust is baking, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
- Spread the apple mixture over the baked crust evenly. Then sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the Apple Pie Bars cool completely in the pan, then lift out using the parchment paper overhang and slice into squares.
