Description

Delicious apple pie transformed into easy-to-serve bars, featuring warm spiced apples and a buttery crumb topping.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press about two-thirds of this crumb mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden, then let cool.
  4. In another bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss until apples are well coated.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the baked crust. Sprinkle remaining crumble mixture on top. Return to the oven for another 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden and apples are tender.
  6. Let the bars cool completely in the pan. Lift out using parchment and slice into squares.

Notes

For added flavor, mix different varieties of apples. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or drizzle with caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
