Description

Delightful corn dog bites featuring savory hot dogs wrapped in a sweet, crunchy cornmeal batter, perfect for snacks, appetizers, or fun meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 6 hot dogs, cut into 1 to 1.5-inch pieces
  • Oil for frying (about 3 cups)

Instructions

  1. Cut the hot dogs into 1 to 1.5-inch pieces and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk until well mixed.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk. Add this to the dry mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Heat oil in a heavy pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Skewer a hot dog piece, dip it in the batter, and make sure it is fully coated.
  6. Fry 4 to 5 corn dog bites at a time for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Transfer the bites to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Repeat until all hot dog pieces are fried. Serve warm with dipping sauces.

Notes

Pat hot dogs dry before battering. Monitor the oil temperature for best results. Fry in small batches to ensure even cooking.
