Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup apple butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–1 1/4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add egg, apple butter, and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Drop balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set.
  6. For frosting, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and mix with 1/4 cup apple butter and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in powdered sugar and a pinch of salt until smooth.

Notes

Ensure butter is softened for the best texture. A pinch of cloves or ginger can be added for extra warmth.
