- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

- 1/2 cup apple butter

- 1–1 1/4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add egg, apple butter, and vanilla, mixing until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
- Drop balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set.
- For frosting, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and mix with 1/4 cup apple butter and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in powdered sugar and a pinch of salt until smooth.
Notes
Ensure butter is softened for the best texture. A pinch of cloves or ginger can be added for extra warmth.
