Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, spices, salt, and baking soda until well combined.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy and light in color.
- Add in the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything is well incorporated and smooth.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, combining until just mixed—avoid overmixing.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and then roll each ball in powdered sugar, coating them generously.
- Place the coated balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until they start to crack on the top. Let them cool on a wire rack afterward.
Notes
Don’t overmix the dough. Chill the dough if it’s too sticky. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
