Description

Delightful glazed buttermilk beignets, warm and fluffy, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 3½ cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix active dry yeast with warm water and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and flour to the activated yeast mixture. Mix until well combined and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  3. Roll the dough out to ½-inch thickness and cut into squares or rectangles.
  4. Heat oil to 350°F and fry beignets in batches for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a bowl to create glaze. Dip warm beignets into the glaze while hot.

Notes

For best results, ensure your water is warm but not scalding when activating yeast. Adjust the glaze thickness by varying milk amounts.
