Description
A classic green bean casserole with a creamy base, tender green beans, and crispy onions, perfect for holiday gatherings and family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup French fried onions, divided
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for sautéing mushrooms)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- If you’re adding mushrooms, sauté them in butter until tender.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the blanched green beans and sautéed mushrooms to the soup mixture and toss until well-coated.
- Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish and spread evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until hot and bubbly.
- Stir in half of the fried onions, reserving the rest for topping.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until the remaining onions are golden brown and crispy.
Notes
Blanching helps preserve the vibrant green color of the beans. For a cheesy variation, sprinkle shredded cheese over the top before the final baking.
