Description

A classic green bean casserole with a creamy base, tender green beans, and crispy onions, perfect for holiday gatherings and family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup French fried onions, divided
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for sautéing mushrooms)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If you’re adding mushrooms, sauté them in butter until tender.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add the blanched green beans and sautéed mushrooms to the soup mixture and toss until well-coated.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish and spread evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until hot and bubbly.
  7. Stir in half of the fried onions, reserving the rest for topping.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until the remaining onions are golden brown and crispy.

Notes

Blanching helps preserve the vibrant green color of the beans. For a cheesy variation, sprinkle shredded cheese over the top before the final baking.
