Description

A comforting dish of savory ground beef simmered in a rich broth, topped with fluffy dumplings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. In a large Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic. Cook until the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Sprinkle in flour and stir to coat the meat and vegetables.
  4. Pour in beef broth, add thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes to thicken.
  5. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and melted butter to make a soft dough.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough onto the simmering beef mixture.
  7. Cover and let steam for 15 minutes. Do not lift the lid while cooking.
  8. Remove the bay leaf, sprinkle fresh parsley on top, and serve hot.
