- 1 lb (450 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-size pieces
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sesame oil for extra flavor)
- â…“ cup honey
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)
- Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss chicken pieces with cornstarch, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add half the chicken and cook until browned (about 4–5 minutes). Remove and repeat with remaining oil and chicken.
- In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
- In the same skillet, add broccoli and water. Cover and steam for 2–3 minutes until tender-crisp.
- Return the chicken to the pan, pour the sauce over, and stir well. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
- If a thicker sauce is desired, mix cornstarch with water and stir it into the pan. Simmer for one more minute.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions and serve hot over rice or noodles.
Notes
For extra flavor, use sesame oil. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3–4 days.
