Description

Delight in warm, flaky Honey Buns with a rich honey glaze and a tender, cinnamon-infused interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup shortening (melted)
  • Vegetable or peanut oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 2/3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Warm water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, mix the warm water, honey, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Create the Dough: Add the egg, vanilla, melted shortening, sugar, salt, and flour to the activated yeast. Stir until you form a soft, pliable dough.
  3. Kneading and Rising: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Buns: Roll the dough into a rectangle, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture, roll tightly, slice into individual buns, and place them in a greased dish.
  5. Fry the Buns: Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F. Fry the buns for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and drain on paper towels.
  6. Prepare the Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, honey, melted butter, vanilla, and salt. Add warm water as necessary until desired glaze consistency.
  7. Glaze and Serve: Dip or drizzle the glaze over buns once slightly cooled. Allow to set briefly before serving warm!

Notes

For best results, ensure yeast is fresh and use a thermometer for frying oil. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
