- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- ½ cup Christmas-colored sprinkles
- 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 3 tablespoons buttermilk (plus more if needed)
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
- Christmas-colored nonpareils (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and almond extract.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients gently and fold in the Christmas-colored sprinkles.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 45-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons buttermilk, and corn syrup, then drizzle over the cooled bread and top with nonpareils.
- Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Check for freshness of baking powder and baking soda. Don’t overmix the batter for the best texture.
