Description
A delightful savory Greek meat pie made with ground beef, rice, and spices, all encased in crispy phyllo pastry.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 12 sheets phyllo dough
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef along with the chopped onions and minced garlic until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent.
- Stir in the cooked rice, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley until everything is well combined.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in a greased baking dish, and brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering and brushing each sheet, until you have used about six sheets.
- Spread the beef and rice mixture evenly over the phyllo layers, making sure it covers the entire surface.
- Top this filling with several more phyllo sheets, brushing each one with melted butter as before.
- Bake in your preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
Great served warm and pairs well with tzatziki sauce or a green salad.
