- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta: Boil salted water and cook elbow macaroni until al dente, drain and set aside.
- Make the Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter, stir in flour to form a roux, then whisk in milk until thickened.
- Add the Cheese: Remove from heat, stir in cheddar cheese and mustard powder, and season with salt and pepper.
- Combine: Mix cooked pasta with cheese sauce until coated. If desired, pour into a baking dish.
- Bake (Optional): Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden.
Notes
For a creamier sauce, add more milk if needed. Feel free to mix cheese varieties for unique flavors.
