Description

Indulge in a heavenly Salted Caramel Dessert that beautifully balances sweet and salty flavors with a rich, buttery caramel and flaky crust, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted
  • Whipped cream, for serving
  • Extra sea salt, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Salted Caramel: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, heat the granulated sugar, stirring constantly until it melts into a thick amber liquid.
  2. Add the butter to the melted sugar, stirring until fully combined.
  3. Slowly drizzle in the heavy cream while stirring, then allow it to boil for about one minute.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in sea salt, and let cool slightly before transferring to a heatproof container.
  5. Make the Crust: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix flour, powdered sugar, and baking powder. Cut in chilled butter until crumbly.
  6. Add vanilla extract and cold water, mixing until dough forms. Press into a 9-inch tart pan, prick with a fork, and prebake for about 15 minutes until golden.
  7. Let the crust cool completely, pour the cooled salted caramel over it, sprinkle with toasted pecans, and add a pinch of sea salt.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving with whipped cream on top and additional sea salt.
