- 1 lb Ground beef (80/20)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 4 slices Cheddar cheese
- 4 Burger buns
- Pickles (Optional)
- Lettuce (Optional)
- Tomato (Optional)
- Ketchup and mustard (To taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the patties: Form the ground beef into four loose balls, about 1/4 lb each.
- Preheat the grill or skillet: Heat over high heat until very hot.
- Smash the patties: Place meat balls onto the grill and smash down with a spatula to about 1/2 inch thick; season with salt and pepper.
- Cook: Let cook for 3-4 minutes without moving; then flip, add cheese, and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Assemble the burger: Toast buns, add patty and desired toppings, and serve.
Notes
For best results, use cold beef and ensure your cooking surface is very hot.
