Description
Delightful soft cut-out sugar cookies with a tender, buttery texture, perfect for any occasion and easy to decorate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup salted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 whole egg (at room temperature)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3–4 tablespoons whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)
- 1/8 teaspoon almond extract (for icing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool on a wire rack.
- For icing, mix powdered sugar, 3-4 tablespoons of milk, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/8 teaspoon almond extract. Adjust the consistency as desired.
- Once cooled, apply icing and decorate with sprinkles or edible glitter.
Notes
Ensure your butter and egg are at room temperature for better mixing. Avoid overmixing once flour is added.
