Description
A hearty and cheesy pasta dish, these Stuffed Shells with Ground Beef are filled with seasoned beef, creamy ricotta, and topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese.
Ingredients
20 jumbo pasta shells
1 lb ground beef (80-85% lean)
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella (plus extra for topping)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg (beaten)
2 cups marinara sauce
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1/2 medium onion (chopped)
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
Instructions
1. Boil jumbo pasta shells in salted water until slightly undercooked (al dente). Drain and rinse with cold water.
2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
3. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, and cook until browned. Let it cool slightly.
4. In a bowl, combine cooked beef, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, and beaten egg to make the filling.
5. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
6. Stuff each shell with the beef-cheese mixture and arrange in the dish.
7. Cover the shells with remaining marinara sauce and top with extra mozzarella and Parmesan.
8. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes until cheese is golden.
9. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil and serve hot.
Notes
For added flavor, mix some sautéed spinach or mushrooms into the filling.
Use a combination of mozzarella and provolone for a richer cheese topping.
