- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 small bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup sloppy joe sauce
- 3 cups frozen tater tots
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, and drain excess fat.
- Add diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the sloppy joe sauce, allowing it to simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Spread the tater tots evenly over the sloppy joe mixture in the skillet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the tater tots are crispy.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Return to oven for an additional 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Garnish with chopped green onions if desired, serve hot, and enjoy!
Notes
For extra crispiness, bake the tater tots separately for a few minutes before adding them to the skillet.
