Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, vanilla extract, almond extract, and orange zest, mixing until smooth.
  4. Gradually incorporate the flour until a dough forms, adding milk if too dry.
  5. Roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut into festive shapes with cookie cutters.
  6. Place cut cookies on baking sheets and chill in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.
  8. For icing, whisk meringue powder, lemon juice, and water, gradually adding powdered sugar until glossy. Thin with water if needed.
  9. Divide icing for coloring as desired and decorate cookies, finishing with sprinkles or crushed candy canes. Let icing set.
