Description

A delightful dessert featuring sweet, tender apples topped with a crunchy oat and brown sugar crumble, infused with comforting spices.


Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Toss the apple slices with lemon juice in a large bowl.
  3. Add granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the apples, stirring to coat. Spread the mixture in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, oats, light brown sugar, and salt. Work in the cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Stir in the nuts if using, and sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Best served warm. Can be stored in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or frozen for 2 months.
