- 6 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice.
- Add granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the apples, stirring until coated.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly in the baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine flour, oats, light brown sugar, and salt. Cut in chilled butter until crumbly.
- If using nuts, stir them in and sprinkle the mixture over the apples.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Best enjoyed immediately but can be stored in the fridge or freezer.
