Description

Warm, fluffy bagels filled with cheesy goodness, perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon malt extract (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Incorporate shredded cheddar cheese into the dough and knead until well combined.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil, adding malt extract if using.
  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape into bagels.
  7. Boil each bagel in the water for 1-2 minutes on each side, then place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with egg wash.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

For a crunchier bagel, boil them a little longer. Feel free to customize with herbs or spices for added flavor.
