Description

A comforting and delicious classic spaghetti dish with a simple tomato sauce, perfect for any day of the week.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with water, add a generous pinch of salt, and bring to a rolling boil.
  2. Add spaghetti to boiling water and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes; drain, reserving some pasta water.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  4. Pour in canned tomatoes (crushed by hand) and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Incorporate chopped basil, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes; simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Toss cooked spaghetti with the sauce in the skillet until evenly coated.

Notes

Use high-quality olive oil for better flavor. Serve hot, topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and additional basil if desired.
