Description

Quick and easy stovetop macaroni and cheese, perfect for a busy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup fontina cheese, shredded
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk to avoid lumps. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheeses until melted and smooth.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, mixing well to combine.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.

Notes

For extra creaminess, use a mix of different cheeses. Make sure to whisk the milk in slowly to avoid lumps in the cheese sauce.
